Getting into how this came about is kind of boring, but it started out as almost a jokey idea erin-hime had about Aerona (blue-skinned girl) and Serena (
I took my time, mostly because there was no way I'd be able to find something awesome for Serena to wear. Indecision is my weakness: I hadn't really loved the outfit I put in her design, so I doodled another, but wasn't 100% sold on that one, either, so I stole elements I lied and stuck them on her original design, and the result is an ugly mess. This was a chance to design a new outfit. And i like it, sure. Maybe not as her everyday outfit, but only because I still picture her in a dress and tights. That being said, I vaguely based her jacket off of this awesome little number (modified so you could see the tail, because otherwise what was the point of posing her like this?), and even though I rambled about green jeans, I thought blue would look better with the yellow. (I'm not sold on the yellow, either: I put her in that because I was looking at some oooooold art, and back then, Serena's 'colour' used to be yellow, and a fairly bright one at that. Now, if anything, I see her colour as pink, don't ask me why.
) It's a cute outfit, but I see it as sort of an...alternative outfit? I don't know. It looks cool but I'm trying to wrap my head around the sort of biker-chick look she's got going here. Who'd have thought?Anyway, erin-hime's Aerona is ridiculously beautiful, as usual. I don't think it's possible to draw a bad picture of her, I swear.
Even the bad pictures I have of her weren't bad when I drew then, ten years ago; they just didn't age well. It's not even that her pose came together better than Serena's did (although it did), and it's not even that her outfit is awesome (although it is), but there's just something about her that always looks awesome. Especially her face; I'm loving how her face turned out here. Drawing her with horns instead of antennae...actually isn't too much of a shift for me, mentally. Maybe it's because her antennae went back and forth between black and her skin colour for a period of time, and the horns aren't excessively long, so it doesn't seem that different. Different enough, but...not majorly so.Also, I can't leave well enough alone. Like, I didn't need to layer coloured pencil over the markers, but I did anyway. And the picture was fine as it was, but I didn't want to put all this effort in and not give them some sort of a background -- something so they weren't just floating in a white void. SO I thought, "well, the Federation starship design is pretty simple, just white, black, and red; I can swing that," because I wanted a background but wasn't going to kill myself trying to add one in (especially since I hadn't actually blocked anything out). It was easy just drawing the couple of lines I needed. I didn't think it would take that long to make it look okay. To be fair, most of the work went towards the carpet, and making the markers blend okay-ish), and the space background. The planet Erebus was a bit of an afterthought, but it's...a little something. Not great, but it helps them stand out a bit more than just pure black. I didn't have to add that, of course, but see what I said above. I just can't leave well enough alone, and here we are.
That being said, it was worth it to do all that because this turned out pretty amazing, if I do say so. I can say that, right? I hope you like it, erin-hime; it was fun to do! I don't know how plausible it'd be, really, but it was fun, and we have a history of drawing our alien characters together, so it works. >.> I hope you like it!

I am rather glad I made that silly suggestion, and that you decided to go for it. I think it works better in your style, because you’re more willing to experiment with angles and whatnot. Also, it just flat out looks cooler in your style. I do have to say that I’m a little disappointed you didn’t go with the hoodie you originally had for Serena in the sketch, because I actually liked that. But thankfully, this works just as well. I like the biker look for her, actually, although I sort of agree that this looks more like a random look rather than her actual style. Still, I like it a lot, and I wouldn’t mind it being her normal outfit if you went that route.
I also like it because it’s causal, and I do see her wearing jeans more than the skirt and tights, honestly. It’d be more comfy, in any case. And yeah, the green jeans are an interesting concept, but come on. Blue. Blue goes with everything, and I think they’d realize it as well, to be honest. Or something. I like the idea that Serena’s color is pink, because I can see that. And funnily enough, even though you say you put her in yellow, it’s actually…orange, and works extremely well with her outfit. I like it a lot.
I do think it’s hilarious that you can’t make a made picture of Aerona. Sure, the style might not age well or whatever, but you’re right – at the time, she’s always gorgeous. Even more so now that I gave her the wavy hair. So. Pretty. And I love how the horns turned out! I didn’t have a clear idea of how they look, but I like the bit of texture you’ve given them. And yeah, the horns seemed natural since I was already playing around with her antenna so much that it was like…meh, what’s one more thing? She looks awesome.
I love that you included both of our settings in this. At first, I was disappointed that it was Erebus that you used before I realized that, and thought it was both awesome and hilarious. How did the Hyperion even get to Erebus? Who cares. It’s there. And Serena is hanging out with Aerona, as that’s just the natural cause of that. But yeah, the Federation ship interior is crazy simple, and yet it works. The thing is awesome. I would have liked the picture without a background, and then you go and make it 100x better. Typical Callisto. 
I think it’s so interesting that this is pencil over markers, because the effect is great! I like. And I love this. How could I not? It’s got two of our best designs in it. And bunny butt. You simply cannot go wrong with bunny butt. Or Aerona for that matter.
