My half of an art trade with ~erin-hime; this is of her vampire character Caroline North (and her husband Thomas just off-screen there – well, it’s his hand and foot, at least).

Although anniversary gifts varied from year to year, it has always been the standard to have gifts of silver on the twenty-fifth anniversary. Gold on the fiftieth. Diamond on the sixtieth.

But what do you get someone on their one hundred and fiftieth anniversary?

It’d better be more than just roses, is all Caroline’s saying here. But I am amused by her politely baffled expression. Perhaps that’s the expression she gets when she’s startled, and Thomas is the one who startles her the most often. She’s just sitting there, looking at old pictures, them bam! Thomas is sitting on that ugly green couch, roses in hand and with a look on his face that suggests there is something else there, too. She doesn’t know what it is, she just knew that Thomas scared the crap out of her doing that.

The picture is set anywhere between 1948 and 1950, depending on when they were married (for the picture, I assumed they were married the year she was turned, 1798, but I’m willing to give a couple years’ leeway). The dress is based of a Dior dinner dress, made of silk. In my mind, Caroline likes green, because it matches her eyes and compliments her hair, and silk. Is silk hard to come by in ‘48? No; more likely she just hoarded whatever she could throughout the years, earning the envy of her mortal, rationing neighbours during the war. They likely didn't like the conspicuous displays of wealth when they were on ration books.

But does she still insist on wearing it whenever she can? Oh yes. In my mind, Elizabeth tells her, over and over, ‘we’re hiding out in a smaller town and we’ve already brought suspicion upon ourselves during the war – the last thing we need is more gossip about us.’ Caroline ignores her and wears silk anyway. She just hides it a little better. You can’t tell Caroline to not wear silk, or at the very least, not wear silk stockings. That’s like telling Winnie the Pooh he can’t eat honey – it ain’t gonna happen. :P

(Joke’s on her, of course. Soon there will be a point where fashionable women aren’t wearing stockings. At all. But this is 1948. She doesn’t know that just yet.)

Vintage hairstyles? Fail. D: I’m not really good at hairstyles between the 30s through the 50s. I’ve got a collection of pictures from the era (actual people, not film stars) but whenever I see them, I still can’t make much sense of what’s going on. (To be fair, they’re small pictures). So I sort of guessed here; I’ve no idea if it’s remotely accurate, but it does look kind of nice. I slaved over her face. She’s repeatedly described as stunningly beautiful, or a “classical beauty”, so I based her face off a statue of Aphrodite, and tried to get it to look as beautiful as I could. I hope it worked. She doesn’t look nineteen, but she’s pretty.

Anyway, I hope this trade makes up for my rushed previous attempt. :\ I like how it turned out, at least, and I hope ~erin-hime does too.

Well, that hardly seems fair. I get a person and a fifth, and I only did one for you. :P Other than that, all I really have to say is :jawdrop:

Wow, just wow.

As for the silk, I’m sure she hoarded the silk in secret, and pulled this out just because she doesn’t have to find it any longer. She’s fairly good about staying inconspicuous when she wants to be. But you’re right, there’s no stopping her when it comes to fashion. (“Oh, this old thing? It was my mother’s. I can hardly give it up, now can I?”;)

As far as the anniversary date, I think I have it in the story now that they get married right before the accident (I haven’t changed the profiles for this), so yeah, their anniversary would be in 1948. And you know, really, she’s lucky he even remembers the date. After a hundred and fifty years, I’m sure it’s slipped his mind at times. And I have a feeling a certain brother had a hand in him remembering this time. So those pathetic roses (sorry, but I’ve seen bouquets of roses, and those are rather pathetic…which works for Thomas)? More than she expected. :P

I also like the little picture within the locket. I’m sure she has to explain that one away as being her grandparents, which shocks people thinking she and her husband look awfully like them. ;p

Um, I also like how her fangs are distended, suggesting he startled her a lot more that one would think. She’s ready for a fight, apparently.

Oh, and as for her face, I like the little confused look she has, but its almost like how I picture her (just with a thinner face.) She may look a little older than 19, but that may be the hair and her trying to look older, so people wouldn’t as further questions. Heh.

Over all…. Total

Thank you so very much!

I'm glad you approve. :P

I always saw Caroline as a fashionista, even if she did have her own tastes, she seemed (to me) the sort of person to incorporate them into the current fashion (particularly if current fashions weren't all to her tastes). I'm glad to see I at least got the fashionable bit down.

Hee, Ben's probably had to remind Thomas more than once at this point. Possibly Thomas remembers the date, but not the year. They could be married 200 years and he'd think it was only 145 or some weird number like that. You'd think he'd ask Robert for tips at this oint...unless Robert can't remember how long he's been married, either. :P

I'm relieved to hear you can at least tell who the people are. :P She'd probably have to claim them as great-grandparents, more likely, but what you said still applies. I'm sure the locket raises some eyebrows. :P

Wow, I nearly nailed her appearance? That's a very flattering comment. Thank you. :D (Her face is too wide? Odd, I narrowed it down further once finished. I could try and narrow it down even more, but I'm not sure how well that would turn out). And yeah, I think hairstyles from that time tend to make the wearer look older to modern eyes, regardless of age. I'm sure it works for Caroline, depending on what she's posing as.

You're very welcome. :D I'm glad you love.
