Before 'Death' - Amelia

Description

I hesitate to call this a ‘series’, as I like to do series in order, and this will be done in random ordering, at random intervals, and may grow beyond this original list.

So in short, it’s like my usual series, except done out of order. :P

~erin-hime recently drew a picture of one of her Purebred characters before their ‘death’ (they’re vampires, so that’s why it’s in quotes), and since I love looking stuff up and agonising whether not a certain outfit would be applicable for their class, country, and era, I decided I’d try and draw as many of the ‘historical’ vampires as I could, dressed as they would be prior to their ‘deaths’. (In the case of ‘ pure-bred’ vampires, as Amelia here is, the date listed is the date at which they apparently stopped aging, judging by their birth year).

So anyway. Here’s Amelia, in 1903 – Queen Victoria had only been dead for a few years at this point; it’s still early on in the era, giving us the s-curve corset, which looks (to be frank) somewhat unnatural; this particular pose was referenced from a fashion plate, and as the woman was standing rather oddly, I assume she was wearing one of those. We also have the oh-so-flattering ‘ pouter pigeon’ front and somewhat-trumpet-shaped skirt. (The dress, with all its pure whiteness and lace, probably is too far above her station, which I see to be middle-class in that era, but feel free to correct me, Erin!)

She actually looks kind of pretty here. >.> I’m not a fan of aspects of the dress, namely the still-there leg-o-mutton sleeves and silhouette, but I think it does look good on her. In Erin’s world, ‘ pure-bred’ vampires are technically alive, so I tried to give her a bit more colour than I normally would give a vampire. I think I overdid it with the rings/bags under her eyes. She looks like someone gave her two black eyes. :o

I’ve always seen Amelia as not very fashionable – that’s Caroline’s domain, possibly a holdover from the RP she was originally in – but not entirely out of the loop. She’s current, without wearing cutting-edge fashion. Maybe she was more of a fashionista when ‘young’.

Also? I'm sorry for the lame background. That was really an afterthought; my focus was on the person, not their surroundings, and as I didn't want to leave it blank, I whipped that...thing up.

I don’t know if you were expecting this or not, Erin, but I hope you like her. :D

Ha, this is awesome. I had been thinking that I wished you could get this done sooner, since you mentioned it might be a few days before its done, because my muse is slowly inching towards the door thanks to hitting my goal already. I needed help, and there you go. Awesome. :)

As far as the picture goes, it's awesome as well. I don't ever really picture any of them in their original clothing, so its fun to see what Amelia would have worn back then. The North's, save for the time Robert was a farmer and just married Elizabeth, have always been rich, so she's not really dressing above her status of upper middle class. And I'm sure big sister Caroline was still dressing her at this point, so if this is really fashionable back then, that's the reason. If not, let's just say Amelia was starting to break free. :P

The circles under her eyes, to me, actually age her rather than making her look like she has black eyes. It may also be the hair, but she looks older than eighteen here. Then again, I always picture her as a young looking eighteen due to the way she acts. Heh. (Really, I think its also the hair. She looks more like she's in her forties. I'm sure she's happy to look older than she is, as most girls her age are.)

All in all, an absolutely fabulous picture, and an extremely nice surprise. :) Certain wasn't expecting it...well, today. And the best part is that, if you keep up the series, I'm guaranteed fan art. :D I have a one track mind, yesh.

Thank you so very much! This is, like I said, awesome. :D
