History In The Making

Description

Everyone meet Eric Aloisburg, eighteen and just having graduated from military school -- you can see the diploma in his hand.

I notice that my descriptions seem to lack proper description for people that just stumble upon them, so I've decided to try and fix that. Eric is one of my characters from a fan soldier story (not placed under fanart because I just don't think it looks like fanart); he's one of the "villians", though this picture is set long, long before he did anything...villanous. :P

That's actually why it's titled "History in the Making" -- not long after this he argues with his father over whether or not to join the military (he wants to, but his father doesn't want him needlessly put in harm's way), and within the next year or so he will leave home and head to a whole new planet (where he will eventually start the events that the story is concerned with).

I'm aware there's a million different things wrong with this picture. I tried to fix them when sketching, but I just couldn't figure out certain problems (like the cording on the front...the right side of it (our right) is an absolute mess). But I liked the picture as a whole so I finished it anyway.

The scar on his face is a scar from Mensur fencing. You can read more there if you like, but the basis is that there is no winner or loser; it is about shaping personality and building character. The idea is that you want to get struck on the face, and the scar is basically a badge of honour. As the country Eric is from is based vaguely on the nineteenth century (when this was popular), I figure lots of upperclass boys have scars like that (which is called a "smite" in fencing terms, apparently).

His father tells him not to hack himself up like that (his father basically overthrew the president in a coup, becoming sort of nouveau-riche), so what does he do? Goes and hacks himself up anyway. (His theory is women like scars. Or at least those kinds of scars). He might have even purposely irritated the fresh wound so that the scar would be more noticeable.

I really like how his hair turned out. ^^; An odd thing to note, but I like it.

I imagine that this would be a painted portrait, and I imagine that this portrait would be hung in the entrance hall of some public building, or possibly the preisdent's house, for the sole purpose of ticking off other heads of state. (Basically, Eric is seen as a traitor by the planet he moved to, so the portrait would be hung there specifically to annoy the leader of that planet).

What a nice man his father is. :P

Yay, CS art! Did this get your muse going, or no? Because sometimes, for me, drawing doesn't work either. ^^;

I say screw the people who don't understand. I draw for myself and people who understand the story in the first place. Everyone else can just be clueless, and enjoy the pretty picture. ;) But that's just me.

I like it, though. At first, I couldn't figure out who Eric Aloisburg was, and then I was like, oh, that's the villain guy (thinking it was Alex...I've been deprived, can you tell). Then I saw the planet part, and I figured it out. :P

I envy you, how you have the history of your villain all figured out, and how they lived. All I know about Lady Spirit is basically what my senshi know, plus a few details. Heck, I can't even visualize the stupid setting for Butai. ^^; Although, I'm not entirely sure an alien planet would look like Earth, but, well, that's just my idea of alien planets (see: Earthia, and it's multicolored planets...;P)

I don't think the clasps look all that bad...you can tell he's standing to the side a bit at least. Great job on the uniform, though. :)

He's quite a looker; he doesn't need a scar to make him look better. But don't tell him I said that. Hee...
