Description

It appears Shinzui hasn't quite grasped the meaning of "when in Rome..." :P

This was inspired by a picture I saw somewhere (I wish I could remember where). It was apparently a print of two apanese women wearing distinctly European clothing from the 1880s (think bustles, etc) except the fabric was bright and the patterns to Japanese tastes. For some reason I always found this picture hilarous and so this picture was born.

Evania was put in there to fill in space, I think. That, and I wanted to draw her in something other than the tunic she usually wears (which is really the bare minimum). In this case, she's wearing two nicer tunics -- a longer one, which you can barely see, and then a shorter one overtop. The purple cloak she wears is based off Greek himations, and I figure if she was going to wear any sort of cloak, it would be that rather than the (more matronly) palla.

(That himation was a pain to do. I tried a new technique when I accidentally used the smudge tool instead of the soften brush and liked the results. I'm not sure if I'll keep using the technique).

Her hair is probably draped over a second diadem, and I imagine it would look a little like this from the front.

Shinzui is also wearing a basic tunic, though as you can tell, she's wearing it with more...Sumikan fabric, which might be a little thicker/heavier than the linens used in Caelestis. She's not wearing a palla, but a simple sort of scarf, which conveniently matches her miniature obi. Her hair is based off pictures of women in ukiyo-e prints, but I'm not sure how 'correct' it is, since it was hard to find proper reference pics. The hairpins and diadem are also Caelesti in nature, the former being carved from bone.

Her fan also has dragons on it. :) I thought it would be appropriate considering her guide.

Why do I always like to ramble about clothing, of all things, when I write these? :O_o:

I think Shinzui has that fan up because she's either laughing, or she's asking Evania to trade outfits with her. :P Or making some sort of comment about not being able to get out of the whole Japanese clothing pattern. I think it's that one, which is why Evania sort of looks like she's laughing as well.

But anyway, both girls look totally awesome. The outfits are great, both of them (I like how you intigrated the Japanese with the Roman, cool. Although, Sumikan fabric is just as light, or maybe even lighter than Caelesti fabric...same sort of climate and all).

The thing I love, though, is the hair. Both of them should wear it like that more often, but espeically Eva. Shinzui doesn't need a complex hairstyle as she is a warrior, but Eva is a public figure, and that hairstyle suites her much better. ^^;

Great pic all around.
