Description
This has been sitting around, 95% finished, for some time (aside from some small mess-ups that I had to fix). I know erin-hime isn't happy with Techna, which is why I was going to change her, but...just...couldn't. Not because her pose is great but because the file is so huge and complicated as it is that the only way I really could would be to do it all over again, and I just...can't bring myself to do that right now. Seeing as I don't have much Heart of Steel art, and probably won't for some time, touching up older crossover pictures is better than nothing, because it is pretty cute.
The style is cute, even if doing it in Illustrator is a pain and a half. There has to be a better way than groups and clipping masks; that's mostly what makes things so complicated. if there was a way to just lock transparency, like in Photoshop, and paint, that'd be cool. Maybe there is; I don't really have the hang of Illustrator despite using it for years now. I think the only thing that was really kinda iffy was having to make sure all the blacks on top of blacks didn't blend into an indistinguishable mess, which they didn't seem to. Altering the brightness/darkness very slightly is just enough to let you see the different layers.
Naturally I like Kinesis the most, because it was kinda fun drawing her floating -- ironically not something she did much in the first draft, but I keep telling myself I'm editing/rewriting it right now, so I should have her float more. She doesn't usually glow when she does, but I had to do something to let you know it was totally a magic thing, and not that she's just doing some really awesome jump.
Techna looks good too, and I think the is really the only picture where she looks kinda twiggy, like she's supposed to. And Night Prowl...well, I don't know much about her, but she looks pretty good, too. I don't know how well a black costume works when you're in the middle of the day, but it's the thought that counts. It is a cute picture, and with a background to boot! Not a great one, but it's better than nothing. I even tried clouds and they turned out okay-ish for Illustrator. Win-win.

I’ve been wondering when you were going to put this up! I can’t believe it’s been five months. >.< I know you were trying to edit Lane and all, but I do think there’s a point where you give up and just post it, although I didn’t expect that point to be five months later. Yeesh.
But better late than never, right?
I still love the way this turned out. Now that it’s been so long since I saw the whole thing, I have to say I really like how everyone turned out! Sure, Night Prowl and Kinesis are all dynamic and awesome and Techna is just…standing there, but I think just the fact that she’s holding that USB cable shows off her ‘power’ pretty well. I like it. I mean, I sort of hate it just because this isn’t the ‘correct’ version of Techna and I have to remind myself that a) at the time it was and b) this is first book stuff and it is accurate based on that. But she turned out cute! I honestly can’t complain!
I really love the pose Kinesis is in. I know she doesn’t levitate herself all that much in HoS, but it’s still a neat pose, and I can see her pulling that trick to show that she does had superpowers and all, and that she’s just as good as Ultro, damn it. Whatever, I like it. And she looks so much better in full costume than when I draw her! She looks very neat.
Of course, Night Prowl looks awesome as well, although she looks like she’s trying to grab Techna’s cable or something. She’s just BSing something better than Lane is, really. She looks so cool and pretty, and OF COURSE SHE LOOKS PRETTY, SHE’S FREAKING LINA. But I like the way she turned out as well.
This just turned out so neat, even if you had to fight with coloring it. I think it was worth it in the end, since this looks so awesome. Now you just need to do a version for the second book
